berkeley b-side published by daylon hicks
Berkeley B-Side, the student-run music magazine based in Berkeley, California, pushes the boundaries of how we think about not just music, but creativity as a whole. While music remains at the heart of the publication, the magazine also serves as a broader platform for cultural expression, offering students an outlet to explore identity, community, and innovation through writing, photography, design, film, and live performance.
More than just a publication, the team fosters a deeply rooted sense of community among students. It’s a space where creativity is welcomed in all its forms, whether that means writing a review of an underground band, designing a spread, or organizing an intimate performance with the A-Side series. The team acts as both a launchpad for local talent and a hub for collaboration, where students can freely showcase their work and learn from one another.
Featuring artists such as Lanlin, Deva Rani, Third Wheel, and many others, Berkeley B-Side serves as a dynamic and evolving platform that amplifies the voices of Bay Area talent, artists who are not only excelling within their genres but actively reshaping them.
More than just a spotlight on emerging talent, B-Side functions as a cultural document that captures the pulse of an ever-changing creative scene. Through in-depth features, interviews, and visual storytelling, it creates space for deeper conversations around identity, community, and artistic intent. By centering underrepresented voices and grassroots movements, the platform reinforces its commitment to inclusivity and creative risk-taking.
